Though I had a pretty busy career before coming to Los-Angeles, this city held many "firsts" for me.
One of those was scoring a western - something I've always wanted to do, especially as a guitarist and a die-hard Ennio Morricone fan!
I met director Stella Tinucci and star Josh Margulies at a wrap party for another project, and immediately felt we hit it off!
We discussed the music for Clam Chowder, Stella's comedy western short, and I decided to put together the opening song - the draft of which was sent to Stella the following day.
Luckily, she loved it! I later learned Stella went out of her way to add shots to the film so that the opening song wouldn't have to be shortened, which I appreciated with all my heart :)
Having the title song in place really set the tone for the rest of the film, and this fun, upbeat, guitar-driven score quickly came together!
Clam Chowder is an official selection at The Wild Bunch Film Festival, AZ, 2017 - and is nominated for Best Film Score, Best Western Comedy and Best Student Film.
Before that, the film got a nice local reception, being selected for We Make Movies Festival (06.14.2017) and CineArtistry Shorts Fest II (05.27.2017).
A few talented friends helped bring this score to life, for which I am very grateful:
- Sebastian Ammerlynd performed the title song beautifully, in true Western style!
- Inbal-Rotem Sagiv revised my original lyrics and sang backing vocals!
- Jeff Willet played his usual awesome, groovin' drums!
- Gene Micofsky contributed a few banjo licks that really bring it home!
- Preston Nowakowski performed the whistling part in the opening song!
OK - so here's the opening song!
I am sincerely honored and humbled to have been nominated for Best Film Score!
My most heartfelt thanks to all the musicians who played on this score, to Stella and Josh, to Inbal and to everyone else whose support made this possible!
Thanks for listening, stay tuned for updates :)
